“An Abundance of Katherine’s” This podcast was very informational. I ended this podcast feeling informed and well researched on the book and whether or not I would teach it in the classroom. I enjoyed Alex’s points about relating formulas to real life experiences and always knowing there are exceptions to every rule. This book also focused on predictions, which is a huge part of mathematics in all grade levels. It also looks at different graphs and formulas which can be used in both math and science. I would be hesitant to include this as strictly a one content book club. I would use this in cross curricular studies and include all four content areas. Strictly from listening to this podcast, I have concluded that social studies can focus on landmarks that are passed during their journey to Gunshot and also the history of the town and historical figures mainly in boxing. In the science classroom, teachers can focus on Einstein and understanding the “Eureka moment” some people have, what that looks like, and how they relate back to real life. In the math classroom, the teacher can focus on relating math to the real world (as stated above) and also incorporate the ideas of reading graphs. In English, we can focus on how the book is written and the importance of all the elements working together. Also, this book focused on the ideas of variables and considering as many as possible. Thanks for this very informative podcast!
