Synthesis Blog Post #1 - Subjects Matter Chapter 2
In reading this chapter I believe it has brought light to the important role I will have in fostering all of my student’s attitudes towards learning. Being that my primary emphasis is science I have always made strides in understanding the concepts that were taught to me from a young age, feeling an inner sense of motivation towards the importance of learning this subject. Realizing that this belief won’t be held by many of my students shows my duties in identifying those that are at risk for negative achievement in my class and being prepared to equip them with the resources they need to succeed. Children are expected to quickly transition from learning to read to reading to learn, especially when they are beginning to learn science. This is where I am hopeful that I can identify the children that haven’t developed effective reading strategies so I know which students will need extra help in relation to others. This is centered around the idea that I will build a climate of trust within my classroom, calling upon students with a higher understanding of the material to work with those that are struggling. This will extend onto my student’s families, where I will develop an enriching partnership in developing a child’s belief in the importance of their education.

I think that reading is an important to science as well. Much of the information is given in the form of a text. The text is then transformed into a lab or visual of some sort. If a student does not understand or comprehend some parts of the read material, it would be hard for them to fully understand the subject.
